The Ordinary. The ultra shiny new kid on the block that has everyone shook.
Sky-rocketing its way to mega-cult status despite only being on the market less than a year, The Ordinary’s humble minimalist collective of treatments have finally brought realness and honesty to the skincare game.
For the longest time, high-performance skincare has come at an extravagant cost. If you desired some serious pigmentation correction, minimization of fine lines or even just a noticeable glow, it would mean throwing down some big clams. After all “good skincare is an investment”.
DECIEM took that expression and burnt it to the ground, in their creation of The Ordinary – a treatment collection that brings the ultra-luxe life to the budget-conscious masses.
Packaging across the line is minimal, and each bottle contains only one or two active ingredients (Vit C, Retinoid, Hyaluronic Acid etc). THIS is how The Ordinary stays so dang affordable. By keeping the active ingredient list low and not hyping it up to be “brand new and innovative”, they really cut the BS and just give you the goods that REALLY work.
But let’s be real – is The Ordinary really all that and a bag of chips?
For the past week, I have incorporated all four products shown through this post into my routine. In the AM, I use Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5, which helps to hydrate and plump the skin.
After this, I apply the Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%, which is a water-soluble derivative of Vitamin C – a super skin brightener (find out more on Vit C with this handy guide put together by The Ordinary team).
Finally, as my moisturiser, I use the Natural Moisturising Factors + HA.
This whole routine is essentially the same after cleansing in the PM, except I swap out the Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA Lotion for their 100% Pure Cold Pressed Rose Hip Oil. This just gives my skin a more intense hydrating treat throughout the night.
While it is still too early to see major changes, my skin is starting to look more clear and toned. At this stage, I am mostly in love with the rich feel of the Natural Moisturising Factors + HA lotion. While it is super thick, it sinks into the skin without leaving a trace of tackiness and no heavy feel. Foundation looks so damn good over this too – more polished, even and smooth.
For you Aussie heads out there, you can find almost every piece from The Ordinary’s line at Ry.com.au. One of Australia’s most primo online beauty and hair care stores, they are super fast shippers with choice customer service. I purchase a lot of my hair care items and tools through them, and they never let me down.
Don’t know which items will be gold for your specific needs? All good. The Ordinary have a few example regimens here for you, as well as a handy chart to know which to apply when!
Sticking to no more than three serums is the way to go, before your moisturiser of choice. Gotta love a brand that actually cares to school peeps in the use, versus just vaguely describing the product and sending them on their blind merry way.
Oh, and EVERY SINGLE ITEM in The Ordinary line is vegan. YAY for not having to check every goddamn label!
In the coming weeks, I will give my final thoughts and a more in-depth review. But for now, I have to tell you kids, it is ticking all the damn boxes.
