Lime Crime Velvetine

The Lime Crime Velvetine in Suedeberry – this baby has been on my radar for a long while and I have never indulged. Until now.

The packaging is just stunning and oh so whimsical – like it came fresh out of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. AND Lime Crime are vegan friendly and cruelty free. MAGNIFIQUE!

The colour is utterly hypnotising. It is described as “strawberry red, often associated with the 1950s icon Marilyn Monroe.”

It is a long-lasting liquid lipstick that goes on like a gloss and dries completely matte. This was ACTUALLY the one thing that kept switching off my desire for it – long wear lip stains and lipsticks usually are so brutal to my precious pucker. They tend to dry out, not looking very sexy once they settle and cake into every crease. I believe that gorgeous, smooth lips can take years off of your face whereas on the flipside – heavy, matte lipsticks tend to age the HECK out of you. Oh, I’ve ALWAYS wanted that…said no-one ever.

Seriously WOW. If Punky Brewster came back as a lipstick, she would be Suedeberry. Full o’ spunk and SASS.

Upon application, it feels quite greasy – almost like rubbing olive oil on your mouth. That sounds horrid, but it was quite nice!

It has a gorgeous vanilla scent too, which is a nice change from the usual strong chemical stench most long wear lipsticks have.

The instructions state to line with a pencil first, and I would have to say it is a MUST. I didn’t have a matching lip pencil so went rogue and applied without – and it was no easy feat. It took me a good three attempts to get it sitting just right. It has a super light and smooth liquid texture so requires a slow and precise application.

Kind of wish I knew to buy a lip pencil first so I could have avoided the issue above – the instructions to apply are INSIDE the box and this is where it tells you to use lip pencil first. Not a huge red flag for me personally but it is enough to cheese some buyers off bigtime when they get home, only to realise another item is technically required to get the best result.

After a minute or so, it dried down to a SUPER matte finish – which is precisely what it is designed to do. For me, it was almost too matte. It felt quite strange as I tried to rub my lips together and they wouldn’t budge. It DID settle ever so slightly into the small lines. However, the overall feel was very lightweight with no tightness so I swept away that one little negative.

Ragged end-of-day mama face. Baby was having his nap. Blogger mode ENGAGED.

BLERG. Not the greatest photo but this shows just how intense Suedeberry is. That superb shade of bright strawberry pink/orange/coral/red is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. It delivers a very retro lip and would be perfect for big nights out as it is kiss-proof (tested and passed) and stays put in just about any situation. Exposure to oily foods will require a touch-up and it does require waterproof makeup remover to get it off. TOUGH STUFF.

Upon finishing this post, more than 6 hours after application – it has not moved a bit. Pretty darn amazing. And I’ve eaten scrummy pasta, drank tea/water constantly and smothered my two extraordinary men with mama kisses throughout that whole time.

So my long wear lipstick hating ways have been rattled. This Lime Crime Velvetine certainly impressed me. However, I can’t help but wish that this exact Suedeberry shade came in their standard Opaque Lipstick range. Those suckers are just amazingly soft and apply like butter – I would happily trade longevity for that ANY DAY.

If you feel compelled to turn to the dark side as I did and come out the other side pleasantly surprised, the Lime Crime Suedeberry Velvetine is available from Rouche Boutique online for $24. You can also use the coupon code ABETTERKIND to get 10% OFF – cool right?

Hope you enjoyed guys – and I’ll be back with more tempting treats tomorrow!

Dawww all these compliments – you’re too kind! I’m getting more into the idea of a matte lip now, although now we’re heading into summer soon here in Australia, I may have to switch back to my lightweight, glossier lippies 😀 x

You’re welcome. Oh, I think a matte lip can be worn at any time of the year as long as one feels comfortable with it 🙂
