Califia Farms have just released three BRAND NEW plant-based milks into Woolworths, but – do these freshies get the ABK seal of approval?
Spoiler alert: they ALL do.
Last June when Califia – pronounced “Cal-ih-fee-ah” – first splashed onto Aussie shores, I shared an Insta pic of their delicious ready-to-drink XX Expresso (of course the giant bottle for one).
And I’ve drunk MANY more ever since! While I am all for over-indulging 24/7, others are a tad more conscious of their sugar smashing. Califia Farms heard the call and since 2014, have aimed to produce more options with less or no sugar. Go health!
Joining the mad existing range of Califia products in Woolies, are the following three new bois. Asked by the Califia crew to sample each and share my thoughts was probably the highlight of my life so far.
Sorry partner and son, you meeting you both was nice but it’s no free choccy milk.
Go Coconuts (750ml)
Feel refreshed this summer with this blend of coconut cream and coconut water, made with no added
sugar (only 0.5g). This carefully crafted plant milk has a smooth, mild taste and perfectly pairs with your
summer cold brew coffee and can be used in a wide assortment of recipes.
I concur. All of the above is true! Go Coconuts is creamy + delicious but I likely wouldn’t chug this one neat. It is INFINITELY cooler paired with iced coffee, smoothies and milk/thicc shakes.
Being unsweetened, Go Coconuts even works in savoury dishes like curries, ramen broths and these incredible looking Tomato Spicy “Tuna” Rolls!
The super mild coconutty vibe of this one makes it a refreshing choice for balmy mornings – totally throw this on your granola with mango for a heavenly summer wake-up call.
Go Coconuts’ greyish look is pretty typical of coconut milks and creams, so don’t freak thinking it has gone bad!
Chocolate Coconut Almond Blend (750mL)
With only 4.2g of sugar per 100 mL this plant-based blend boasts significantly less sugar than traditional
chocolate dairy milk and other milk alternatives on-shelf. A good source of calcium, it’s made with real
coconut cream, cocoa and California almonds, making it both delicious and creamy. Serve it hot or cold
and use it in recipes, this product is the perfect beverage for everyone, especially families who are
looking for a healthier sweet treat option.
Ok I’m not one to play favourites, but today that has all changed…Califia’s Choccy Coco Almond is probably my #1 fave of their products to date!
Reason? It takes just like Chocolate Yogo. Us Australian kids all know the taste and for us that grew on to vegan level up, it is sorely missed. NO LONGER.
After a sip, the chocolate flavour tapers off, ending kinda of cacao-ish vs sweet as I was expecting. Still constantly going back for more though! But if you want to be sweeter, you can always add a dash of maple syrup, or go turbo creating a mean freakshake to turn it way up.
Or Chillbo Baggins a little and be a good gal like I am this week planning ahead my breakfasts – so pumped to try their rad Chocolate Overnight Oats recipe!
Mocha Cold Brew Coffee (750mL)
This velvety, dairy free cold brew coffee is blended with cocoa powder, a dash of sea salt and Califia Farms artisanally-made creamy almond milk. All that deliciousness with only 4.9g of sugar per 100mL.
Not sure if it’s the direct trade sourced 100% Arabica beans, or their light Scandi-style roasting technique, but Califia Farms make a mean cold brew!
Comparing this smooth babe to most traditional ready-to-drink iced coffees in Australian, and this Mocha Cold Brew has far less sugar that the rest.
If you want to dial it down EVEN MORE, the XX Expresso Cold Brew and Mocha Noir already on Aussie shelves have 70% less sugar than the usuals! MASSIVE – now you can get your caffeine hit without being sent into overdrive with tons of the sweet stuff!
Far more than just a grab and go coffee fix, Califia’s Mocha Cold Brew Coffee can also be used in amazing recipes like their other versatile milks.
Feast your eyes on this scrummy four ingredient Chia Seed Chocolate Coffee Mousse I made earlier!
So simple to put together as a light dessert for guests during the warmer months. Simply top with whipped coconut cream, some plump snozzberries, grated choc – or melted Vego bar – and buckle in for the rave reviews!
Have you had a chance to try any of the Califia Farms newness? If so, which is your fave?
